Course content
The course presents the students with the history and current trends in institutional care for people with a physical, sensory or mental impairment. It gives information on division, terminological definitions, range of compensational tool used, including practical training, nursing interventions and communication modes in people with a physical impairment / people with sensory impairment.

Learning outcomes
The course aims at acquiring knowledge of specific needs and nursing interventions necessary for nursing people with physical, sensory or mental impairment in hospitals, residential facilities and a whole range of supportive healthcare and social services.
Student: - know the basic criteria of contemporary nursing care for people with a disability - can identify risk factors during hospitalisation and a stay in a residential facility regarding social exclusion, respecting autonomy and dignity of a person with a disability - is able to prepare a nursing plan for a specific group of population with emphasis on removing risk factors and securing a full use of the nursing care provided - can handle specific practical skills connected with providing nursing care for a person with a disability
