Subject's main areas: -palliative care - as defined by the WHO, WACP -general and specialised care, principles, organisation forms, legislation -multidisciplinary team of palliative care providers -history and present state of hospice movement in CR and abroad -dignity and quality of life in the terminal stage of life -nursing issues and symptoms in palliative care -nursing interventions Spiritual Support, pastoral care -accompanying the dying, bereavement, care for the relatives -specificity of palliative nursing care in selected group of patients -nursing process in the terminally ill suffering from psychic and existential anxiety

Learning outcomes
|
This is a practical and theoretical subject focusing on providing palliative care in heath care facilities, hospices as well as in home environment. It present new services and types of facilities which belong among follow-up care facilities and which provide individual nursing care for the terminally ill and the dying, with extension to information on specifics of children's palliative care. It puts emphasis on understanding the concept of hospice care providing the terminally ill in the end-of-life phase dignified dying, reconciliation and a peaceful departure. It also focuses on activities to support the close relatives in stages of bereavement.
After completion, students will -understand the basic principles of general and specialised palliative care -will be able to implement general palliative procedures into nursing interventions while providing care at the end of life in home and institutional environment -know the specificity of palliative nursing care in a selected group of patients

Participation in classes 80%, active participation in exercises, analysis of case studies, etc. documentation for a patient in palliative care.
