Course content
Students are introduced to classical and especially modern methods of refractive surgery, including their evaluation and comparison. Indication criteria and the choice of an appropriate procedure for individual types of defects, including specific cases, are discussed. Specific cases from clinical practice are demonstrated and discussed in the exercises. Introduction to the issue. Possibilities of laser surgery to remove dioptric defects: historical development, modern directions of development. Procedures without corneal flap formation (PRK, LASEK, PTK), indications, advantages, disadvantages. Procedures with corneal flap formation (LASIK, Epi-LASIK, SBK LASIK). FemtoLASIK, advantages, disadvantages, history of femtosecond corneal surgery. Retreatments, flap lift, Topolink. Solutions to early and late complications after laser refractive procedures. Incisional and intraocular refractive surgery, history of intraocular lenses. Astigmatic keratotomy, radial incision, limbal relaxation incision. Phakic intraocular lenses, types, indications. Refractive lensectomy, indications, toric intraocular lenses, multifocal, bitoric, multifocal toric... Implantation of intrastromal corneal rings, history and present. Types of corneal transplantation, optical indications for this surgery. Combination of procedures, Bioptics. Solving refractive surprises and complications after surgery. True net power and calculation of the refractive power of the lens in patients after previous laser surgery.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with classical and especially modern methods of refractive surgery, including their evaluation and comparison, including indication criteria and the choice of appropriate surgery for individual types of defects, including specific cases.
Describe the given methods and their principles. Know the indications, limits and complications of the discussed refractive procedures. Evaluate the suitability of the procedure in a model case.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the eye, refractive errors, their correction and corresponding examination procedures at the level of a bachelor's degree in optometry.
