Course content
|
Review of selected topics from the course Probability and Statistics with regard to applications in optometry. More advanced methods of statistical hypothesis testing (single/multi-factor ANOVA, ANOVA for repeated measures, non-parametric alternatives; goodness-of-fit/independence chi-square test, contingency tables), assumptions/conditions of their applicability and other related statistical tests (normality, sphericity tests; post-hoc tests); clinical interpretation of results. Comparison of two measurement methods, repeatability of measurements (correlation, Bland-Altman analysis). Evaluation of diagnostic tests (sensitivity, specificity, ROC curve). Planning of experiments/data collection with regard to the statistical methods used. Individual methods and procedures are demonstrated by solving specific tasks (including the choice of an appropriate method and clinical interpretation of results) with the support of statistical software. Students will become practically acquainted with the statistical functions of the MS Excel spreadsheet and with the possibilities of advanced data analysis using appropriate statistical software (e.g. jamovi, Statistica).

Learning outcomes
|
The course directly builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in the Probability and Statistics course. The aim is to expand knowledge by selecting more advanced data processing methods with an emphasis on their practical application and strengthening the corresponding practical skills.
Students will learn to choose an appropriate statistical method, process data using this method with the support of appropriate software, and correctly interpret the results from both a statistical and clinical perspective.
