1. Introduction to cosmetics and cosmetology. Definition of cosmetic products, the term conventional and natural cosmetics. Legislation in the field of cosmetic products and quality assurance. 2. Anatomy and physiology of the skin. Skin and its function, typology. Classification of the skin from a cosmetological point of view. Skin types, access to skin types. 3. Moisturizing preparations. Mechanism of skin hydration. Moisturizing substance. Methods used to test skin hydration. Skin barrier and pH. 4. Skin aging. Possibilities to influence the appearance and aging of the skin by cosmetic products. 5. Photoprotection of skin. UV radiation and its effect on the skin. UV protection products. Tanning preparations. Self-tanning preparations. 6. Hair cosmetics. Basics of anatomy and physiology of hair system. Preparations in hair care - function, content substances. Special preparations. 7. Targeted cosmetics. Dental hygiene products - active and auxiliary substances in oral hygiene products. Cosmetic preparations against sweating - ways of influencing, active and auxiliary substances. Nail cosmetics. Anti-cellulite preparations. 8. Skin irritation. Principles and mechanisms of skin irritation by surfactants. Special care for sensitive skin. 9. Specific active and auxiliary substances in cosmetic products. Preservatives and antimicrobials used in cosmetics. 10. Skin diseases. Skin damage caused by physical and chemical effects. Examination methods in dermatology. 11. Treatment of skin diseases with cosmetic products. Basic components of external drugs and evaluation of their effectiveness. Application forms of external pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Presumed mechanisms of action on the skin. 12. Cosmetics testing. In vitro, ex vivo, in vivo testing. Animal testing and legislation.

The aim of the lectures is to acquaint students with the composition of cosmetics, types of cosmetics and methods of their use.
The graduate of this course will gain knowledge about composition, types and usage of cosmetic products.
