Course content
1. Biological membranes: thermodynamic description of transport. Diffusion in a homogeneous medium and through permeable and semipermeable membranes. Osmosis and osmotic phenomena. 2. Sensory Biophysics: transferring the cell membrane potential, distribution and function of receptors, ion channels and their function, nerve conduction fibers. 3. Biophysics of Hearing: structure function of the ear, acoustic basic physiological parameters. 4. Biophysics of vision: ventricular structure and function of the eye as an optical apparatus, the lens defects and their correction. The function of the retina, visual acuity, color vision. 5. Biophysics of respiration: respiration volumes and capacities, the gas exchange between external and internal environment disorder. 6. Biophysics of Cardiac activity: basic nature of cardiac activity, interaction, disturbances. 7. Acoustics: basic relationships and concepts, acoustic wave, ultrasound, acoustic spectrum. 8. Light Microscope: principle, basic relations (magnification and resolution limit), types of use. 9. Electron Microscope: principle, basic relations (magnification and resolution limit), types of use. 10. Principles of Radiology: radioactive decay, radioactive radiation, half-life, medical application. 11. Interaction of ionizing electromagnetic radiation with biological systems. The mechanisms of absorption, the effects on the organism, clinical use. 12. Interaction of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation with biological systems. The mechanisms of absorption, the effects on the organism, clinical use.
