Course content
Lesson schedule: Week 1) Dutch linguistic journals and publications (printed and electronic), ANS, language advice centres on the Internet. Week 2-3) Parts of speech: analysis of sentences, classification, practice of Dutch linguistic terminology. Week 4-6) Word formation processes in contemporary Dutch (derivation, compounding, conversion, abreviation processes, blending). Week 7-9) Nominalisation, verbonominal construction in Dutch. Week 10-12) Infinitive constructions, non-finite clauses. Week 13) Conclusion, final test.

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on selected topics from Dutch grammar and lexicology, with great emphasis on the use of correct Dutch terminology. The theoretical overview is always illustrated by a number of examples. In the seminar, students apply the acquired knowledge of the Dutch language in various types of exercises and also practice the sentence analysis (parts of speech). An integral part of the course is also self-study of selected articles from Dutch linguistic journals and a brief presentation of their content.
Extended theoretical and practical knowledge of Dutch grammar and lexicology of the Dutch language, an overview of Dutch linguistic journals and currently addressed linguistic topics.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Dutch at least at the B2-level and basic knowledge of Dutch linguistic terminology are required.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Written exam

Carrying out homework assignments, presentation, a written credit test at the end of the semester (min. 60 %).
