Course content
|
During the semester, the lecturer selects various texts of an increasing difficulty. The lecturer explains difficult words, phraseology, etc., as well as grammatical phenomena. For each second lesson, students will receive a new text (6-8 per semester on average) for which questions are compiled, which students have to answer in Dutch. Their answers and the most common grammatical and lexical errors are explained during the lesson.

Learning outcomes
|
The course writing is part of the so-called diploma module and prepares students for writing their bachelor theses in Dutch. Given the complexity of the foreign language academic writing process and the language skills of students at level A2 to B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which they acquired during the first year of study, students are encouraged to take structured written tasks from the textbook Nederlands in Actie in order to learn the desirable practices and habits and to avoid unnecessary mistakes. In addition, during the course we will read actual texts from the magazines Elseviers Weekblad and Vrij Nederland and from the newspaper NRC to which questions and tasks will be formulated. By doing so, the students further develop their language skills and experience the first success in writing Dutch texts.
The students are able to react in a written way to the daily situations, to use appropriate vocabulary and to apply the grammar rules they have learned about in the authentic situations. Improvement of the language skills from level A2/B1 to B1/B2 CEFR.

Prerequisites

Presence in the lessons (maximum absence twice per semester). Knowledge of Dutch at the level A2 to B1 CEFR.
