Learning outcomes
In the seminar, in addition to the actual translation, students will improve their skills in working with various (electronic) resources and learn to check the reliability of internet searches. They will learn how to argue and defend translation solutions when reflecting on their own translation output. The seminar will draw on skopos theory and the functionalist translation method in its translation approaches.
Students improve their foreign language translation, expand their vocabulary and stylistic skills. Students work with texts from different subject areas.
Prerequisites
The seminar is intended for 3rd year students with a level of Dutch B1-B2. The prerequisite is mastery of all grammatical phenomena in the target language. Grammatical errors in written speech may occur, but should not be to the detriment of the clarity of the language.
Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Analysis of Activities ( Technical works), Systematic Observation of Student, Written exam
Credits will be awarded on the basis of the submission of a portfolio of translations produced in the seminar, which shows that the student has actively applied the knowledge gained from the analysis and discussion of the translation assignments. At the end of the semester, students write a test translation on a specified topic and within a specified scope.
