Course content
|
In the summer term a total of 10 lessons will be given: 1) The emergence of Dutch colonies from 1595 to 1795. 2) Stadholder William III and the Glorious Revolution in England. 3) The Whigs and Enlightenment. 4) The French period 1790/95 - 1813/5. 5) An attempt to restore the United Provinces of the Netherlands from 1815 to 1830. 6) Formation of Modern States: William II and Leopold I, William III and Leopold II, the Industrial Revolution. 7) Building of modern colonies. 8) Queen Wilhelmina, King Albert I, Independence of Luxemburg, The First World War. 9) The interwar period, the Second World War. 10) The period after the Second World War and decolonization. The remaining blocks are spare, if there is some need of more time for some period.

|
A basic survey of the history of both countries fro the beginning to present day.The course will take place in teh form of an E-course (tzv. courseware)
After the course the students will have a good survey of the history of the Low Countries from the Peace of Munster (1648) till present.
