Course content
Students are introduced to the basic journalism genres and article types related to reporting on development issues, their role in development and humanitarian fields, and relevant theoretical concepts from the field of media studies. Practical skills for producing text-based outputs include topic selection, writing process, ethical principles, recognition and avoidance of common stereotypes about developing countries as well as solving common problems related to data gathering. Students will put these skills into practice through the production of their own texts, on which they will receive feedback and which will form part of the final assessment.

The course combines theoretical and practical perspectives on journalism in development. It provides students with a basic theoretical understanding of the role of the media in development and humanitarian issues and equips them with critical skills for producing their outcomes.
