Course content
Introduction to principles of analytical chemistry in experimental biology and directions of development of modern methods of analytical chemistry: Basic classification of analytical chemistry and experimental methods; the basic steps in chemical analysis of biological samples; qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses (inorganic and organic); types of analytical reactions (protolytic reactions, complexation equilibria, precipitation reactions, and reduction/oxidation reactions); evaluation of analytical results.

Learning outcomes
Analytical chemistry methods in experimental biology.
Student should be able to explain (after attending the course): Experimental methods in chemistry, basic terms of analytical chemistry and their methods, classification of chemical analysis; the basic steps in chemical analysis of biological samples (the choice of analytical method, sampling, preparation, decomposition and dissolving of samples, elimination of interferences, calibration and measurement of analytical signal, data interpretation); qualitative inorganic and organic analyses; quantitative gravimetric and volumetric analyses; chemical equilibria in analytical chemistry - protolytic reactions, complexation equilibria, precipitation reactions, and reduction/oxidation reactions; principles of chemometrics and basic statistics.
Prerequisites
Elementary knowledge in modern chemical methods.

Oral exam, Written exam
