Course content
Topics of seminars: 1.General Biophysics. Matter composition, atoms, molecules and their main characteristics. Molecular properties of gaseous, liquid and solid substances. 2.Fundamentals of Biostatistics. 3.Natural and artificial radioactivity. Types and properties of ionizing radiation. Biological effects, irradiation disease. 4.Cell biophysics. Structure and properties of biomembranes. 5.Biopotential, resting membrane potential, action potential and its spread. 6.Biophysics of tissues and organs, mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties. Fundamentals of biomechanics. 7.Biophysics of blood circulation. Oncotic pressure, its importance for microcirculation. The origin of swelling. 8.Basics of ecological biophysics. Topics of practical lectures (in the form of cyclic substitution of tasks in groups): 1.Body temperature measurement. A cold test. 2.Biophysics of blood circulation. Measurement of blood pressure. Monitoring of vital functions. 3.Radioactivity measurement. 4.Electrocardiography and Holter systems. 5.Ultrasound imaging. 6.Doppler ultrasound methods. 7.Hearing examination. Basic audiometric tests.

Learning outcomes
Medical biophysics is a discipline that studies the physiological and pathological manifestations of the organism through physical laws and explains the basic principles of medical diagnostics and therapy. By its scope, the course is conceived as the introductory course into the field. The course focuses on clarification of basic mechanisms of various physical factors on human health to the students of physiotherapy.
Students will be able to understand the basic biophysical processes of the human body and will be able to work with basic medical devices.
