Course content
Learning outcomes of the course unit The subject focuses on key issues and topics related to elementary and communicative education intended for primary schools according to the Framework Educational Program for Basic Education. He deals with the basic theoretical concepts of linguistic stylistics, presents the Czechoslovak tradition of stylistic view of language and its use in various communication spheres and situations and also systematizes the knowledge gained by students in previous courses focused on Czech grammar, focusing on the variance of language resources according to the individual language plans. The subject is dominated by the interest in the system of stylistic means of contemporary Czech, but there is no emphasis on practical stylistics (spoken / written speeches). 1. Stylistics as a scientific discipline (theory, systematics, practical stylistics, basic terminology, communication situation / communication sphere, adequacy / suitability, relevance, codification vs linguistic norms, classification of attitudes, stylistic factors / slope factors). 2. Stylistic aspects of text construction (style procedures and their modifications, stylistic units, text breakdown and principles of its construction: text units and their boundaries, horizontal / vertical structured text, specifics of textual subdivisions of different genres and styles). 3. Grammar of text (text coherence: expression means of text cohesion and meaning relations of text coherence, coreference and thematic sequences). 4. FEP ZV and ŠVP (Czech language and literature: communication and style education, partial outputs, curriculum and thematic areas for 2nd year of primary school). 5. Talking versus writing (basics of spoken speech and non-verbal means, essentials of written expression, creative work with the text. Fundamentals of electronic communication; communication sphere: interactivity, monologue vs. dialogue, private vs. public speech, symmetry vs. asymmetry; the sphere of school communication). 6. Problems of style work (ways of assigning and evaluation, discussions on the teaching of style at primary and secondary schools, state matrices, examples of style work and their analysis). 7. Writing - inscription (Czech as a national language and the perspective of individual departments and semi-permanents.) Special status of colloquial Czech - Criteria of adequacy, clarity and accuracy: their analysis and their view across traditional functional areas. 8. Communication and style teaching in textbooks for elementary schools (summarizing the view of Czech language textbooks, focusing on compositional instruction, educational portals and their contents, stylistics and its description in modern Czech grammar). 9. Communication and style teaching in practice (methods and procedures, characteristics of style exercises and their meaning at present). 10. Variance of contemporary Czech language means (basic overview of style variants according to individual language plans with specific focus on vocabulary and its development, duality and style value). 11. Functional styles and their models (norms, procedures and departments: a brief characteristic of functional styles, the meaning of this classification and its possible use in teaching, stylistic systematics and its use in practice, writing versus reading). 12. Functional styles and their models (standard, procedures and formats: simple style of communication, examples and possibilities of analysis). 13. Learning outcomes
After completing the course students should be able to: Understand the Czech language as a rich and variable set of diverse resources (eg within the stratification model) that can be used for various communication goals and in different communication situations; to further develop this variability and to use it in teaching the mother tongue. To characterize individual themes of style and communication education for elementary schools. Describe the variants of the contemporary Czech language resources, know the basic style procedures and departments of each functional area, and prepare corresponding practical examples according to the individual themes of stylistic and communication education. Use the knowledge of individual functional styles and their specific features (and variability in connection with the simultaneous influence of digital media and social networks on communication) for practical teaching of communication skills (spoken and written) at elementary schools.
