Course content |
The year 1948 and the rise of socialist realism as a turning point for Czech culture. Literature, period ideology and censorship. Exclusions from literature (Catholic authors, etc.). Characteristics of official and unofficial Czech literature in 1948-1989. Basic features of Czech literature after 1989 (focusing on the period 1989-2000). Transformations of the world literature from 1948 to 2000. The most significant works from the field of dramatic creation and theater activities of the given period. Profile authors of the literary period, their work and discussion about the possibility of applying selected texts in the teaching at elementary school.

Learning outcomes |
After completing the course students should be able to: defining the basic historical and cultural framework of the development of Czech society in the European and world context in the period 1948-2000; Explain the basic specifics of the development of Czech literature and drama in this period, with an emphasis on the basic lines of creation (both official and unofficial); to characterize the transformations of world literature from the mid-20th century to the year 2000; to enumerate and characterize significant genres and genre variants grown over a given period; To assess the creation of selected profile authors of the period and to include them in the context of period culture; Evaluate the reputation of their work in contemporary culture; to formulate their own attitude towards the artistic creation of the given period; analyze and interpret selected artistic texts; Present own interpretation of selected artistic text from the literature of the defined period with regard to the possibility of applying in the teaching at elementary school, especially at the 2nd grade of elementary school; argue in discussions about the artistic value of the work.
