Learning outcomes |
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: - Define syntax and differentiate between traditional and valency-based approaches to syntax. Describe the specifics of simple sentences (including one-member and two-member sentences), compound sentences, and sentence equivalents. - Classify sentence types based on communicative intent, including demonstrations with specific examples. - Classify sentence elements (basic vs. modifying, simple vs. expanded, multiple vs. complex). Identify expressions that are not sentence elements or are only parts of them. - Demonstrate primary and secondary syntactic functions of nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs with specific examples. - Recognize and correctly name individual sentence elements, list and characterize their types, and demonstrate the differences between them using specific examples. - Perform a detailed stratification of various types of predicates, including specific examples. - Explain the basic types of compound sentences in Czech, with examples. - Conduct a comprehensive syntactic analysis of both simple sentences and compound sentences, including hierarchical graphical representations. - Define the valency-based approach to syntax and apply this knowledge in creating grammatical sentence patterns.
