Course content
Course description and content: Syntagm. Primary and secondary functions of parts of speech. Syntactic relations. Multiplication of syntactic position. Valence syntax, valence of a verb. Predicate, predicate clause. Subject and non-subject structures. Subject, subject clause. Object, object clause. Adverb, adverb clause. Modifiers. Atributes. Complement, complement clause. Paratactic and hypotactic sentence. Semantic construction of a text (verb intention, sementic classification of predicators, semantic roles). Positive and negative sentences. Modification of an utterance. Modality of an utterance. Theory of text.

Learning outcomes
Course objectives: To define syntagms and explain the kinds of expressions that become syntagms, To qualify primary and secondary function of parts of speech, To describe syntactic relationships between parts of a sentence including multiplication of syntactic positions, To define valence syntax, create grammatical sentence patterns, To define parts of a sentence, name and characterize them, demonstrate differencies between them, Compound and complex sentence in Czech, types of hypotaxis, To provide complex analysis of complex/compound sentence, To classify predicators from the semantic point of view and classify basic semantic roles, To apply the knowledge of semantic pattern within language analysis of text, to write down semantic and complex sentence pattern, To provide examples of negative in Czech, To define and characterize basic discourse modifications and identify them during discourse analysis, To clarify basic aims of expressing modality, To define communicative pragmatical approach and communicative functions of discourse, To define cohesion and coherence.
