Course content
|
The profession of a foreign correspondent has undergone a significant transformation over the past three decades, but at the same time there are still professional principles that a journalist should master and honour. The course is taught by a veteran television and radio foreign correspondent with a wealth of practical experience. The course syllabus takes a detailed look at the issues of foreign reporting from a variety of perspectives. It will outline the significant changes that the profession is undergoing (e.g. due to digitalisation) and introduce the important common denominators of the work of foreign correspondents - including editorial routines, sources of information or the course of the working day. At the same time, it will present the different forms of the profession in different regions. Last but not least, the specificities of war reporting will be reflected. Framework of seminar topics: 1. Introduction of students to the syllabus and conditions for successful completion of the course. 2. Foreign news and its place in contemporary journalism 3. Historical excursion: important milestones in foreign news 4. Changes in the work of the foreign correspondent 5. The working day of a foreign correspondent. How does it differ from domestic reporting? 6. Sources of information of a foreign correspondent 7. Specifics of the work of a foreign correspondent in different regions 8. Professions involved in foreign news (editor, cameraman, editor...) 9. Specifics of war reporting

Learning outcomes
|
The course "Foreign Reporting" introduces students to the development, trends and practice of a specific segment of journalism - foreign reporting. After completing it, the student should gain a detailed overview of the profession, know the specifics of the work of a foreign correspondent in comparison with domestic reporting, but also acquire the necessary practical skills.
The students will gain practical skills and theoretical knowledge that will ensure quality preparation for the work of a foreign correspondent in the media sphere.

The course is designed primarily for second and third year students.

|
Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary)
Credit: (requirements for credit) - Max. 2 absences from class - Continuous completion of assignments during the semester - active participation in class - successful completion of a written test
