1. Sociology as a science: definition, legitimacy, relation to practice and conditions of origin. 2. Dilemmas of sociological research; paradigmatic approaches; system and functions. 3. Social order, stratification; class, institution. 4. Social groups, social movements. 5. Social mobility; socialization, values and norms, social capital. 6. Sociology of family, gender and work. 7. Sociology of lifestyle and leisure time. 8. Sociology of globalization, migration and postcolonial theory of society. 9. Sociology of politics: public opinion, ideology, populism. 10. Sociology of sport. 11. Research: design, operationalization, hypothesis, sample. 12. Research techniques and tools: techniques of questioning, observation, content analysis.

|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic sociological concepts and introduce them to possible sociological areas of analysis. The mastery of sociological concepts and theories is a prerequisite for a deeper understanding of some other theoretical concepts, particularly in the theory of mass communication. Introduction to selected areas of sociological analysis (e.g. sociology of the family, of lifestyle, migration and globalization) aims to equip students (future journalists) with the ability to a qualified analysis of social phenomena.
The student will be acquainted with the basic sociological concepts primarily in the framework of masmedia communication

Credit: Writing an analytical (journalist) article on relevant social topic (3600 to 18000 ch.) Colloquium: Test verification of knowledge acquired within the course.
