Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide an orientation in the basic concepts used in political science. Sub-topics: introduction to the state, power, democracy; the essence of the main political ideologies: liberalism, conservatism, communism; issues of political process and decision-making; basic theories of international relations; human rights in today's world; basic trends and theories of contemporary environmentalism, ideology and its contemporary conception. The knowledge is applied to the contemporary socio-political situation in the Czech Republic and abroad. Media interpretations of particular political processes are also discussed.
Students will acquire skills of the course according to sylabus

basic orientation in the area of poltics and political science

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Credit requirements: - Class attendance, active discussion participation in class, completion of duties assigned by the teacher (e.g., reading) - giving a presentation (may be from the readings on the topic/may map media reflection on the current topic) - credit test (70 per cent pass mark required)
