Course content
In an era framed by convergence and digitalisation, journalists are being asked to master different approaches and skills, not least by professionals in television news. Television is a medium that speaks to audiences in several ways. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage. Television news needs to be more concise than written news. Television is adapting to the pace and demands of the 21st century; it needs to be fast on screen and even faster on social media. There is increasing pressure for accuracy of information. Quality television news can therefore be achieved through a mix of many skills and teamwork. These realities and all current trends are reflected in the agenda of the course, which is taught by long-time Czech Television news editor Martin Laštůvka. An outline of the seminar topics: 1) What a TV editor (doesn't) do - How television news works 2) Building a TV report, preparing live inputs - How to write a TV report and speak live to the camera 3) Mobile journalism - editor as cameraman - social media 4) Visit to CT Olomouc newsroom - tour of the newsroom - filming in the field 5) Specifics of other professions in TV news from the perspective of professionals - cameraman, presenter 6) Debate over students' outputs

Learning outcomes
The course "Television Reporting in Practice" introduces students to all the essential procedures and processes of television reporting and develops practical skills in the relevant professions.
