In an era framed by convergence and digitalisation, journalists are being asked to master different approaches and skills, not least by professionals in television news. Television is a medium that speaks to audiences in several ways. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage. Television news needs to be more concise than written news. Television is adapting to the pace and demands of the 21st century; it needs to be fast on screen and even faster on social media. There is increasing pressure for accuracy of information. Quality television news can therefore be achieved through a mix of many skills and teamwork. These realities and all current trends are reflected in the agenda of the course, which is taught by long-time Czech Television news editor Martin Laštůvka. An outline of the seminar topics: 1) What a TV editor (doesn't) do - How television news works 2) Building a TV report, preparing live inputs - How to write a TV report and speak live to the camera 3) Mobile journalism - editor as cameraman - social media 4) Visit to CT Olomouc newsroom - tour of the newsroom - filming in the field 5) Specifics of other professions in TV news from the perspective of professionals - cameraman, presenter 6) Debate over students' outputs
