Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the lecture is to present possible critical approaches to analysis of television programs, compare the profile of television with other media types at the level of the formal system. This semester the lecture is focused on the specifics of narrative forms of television.
Students are able to name basic analytical approaches from the field of tv studies, to define the concepts of seriality and their alternatives based on the innovative tendencies of contemporary television, to define technological and institutional determinants of historical changes in the television medium. Students are able to analyze programming, marketing and branding strategy of television as an institution. They are able to categorize tv programs, evaluate their structuring and characterize the mechanisms involved in the narrative.

There are no prerequisites, successful completion of KDU/USF is highly recommended.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Written exam
Basic knowledge of approaches of tv criticism, the ability to apply selected critical procedures on a given task, knowledge of currently broadcasted TV programs. To get credit students will realize presentation "news" from the tv area studies within the lecture series. Preparation for each lesson - recommended chapters from study text. The information explained in the text will be further discussed on lecture.
