The course will be taught exclusively in English; primarily for foreign ERASMUS+ students, but is also open to students of Czech study programmes - Bachelor's degree level. The aim of the course is to introduce students to the elementary areas and topics of media studies. The media can be studied as an industry and organisations employing professional authors. Focus can be also put on their products - the media contents. We can study also the audiences that media contents address, and the effects they have on individuals, social groups and society as a whole. In addition to the elementary information about the possibilities of studying of the media, faculty members of the Department of Media and Cultural Studies and Journalism will present their current research and topics. We will deal with contemporary media industries, the challenges of journalism in times of crisis, the Czech gaming industry, the media political discourse of Central European countries, the popularisation of science in the media, media glocalisation, or the "statistization" of sports TV broadcasting.
