Course content
1. Race and racism - the history and development concepts 2. Racism - an overview of major theories before the onset of post-colonial studies 3. Racism - an overview of the most important theories in the post-colonial studies 4. Protorasismus - a controversy about the existence of racism in antiquity and the Middle Ages 5. Learning outcomes
Although the term "racism" was still in the 30 of 20th century in the context of the increasing radicalization of the Nazi regime, a phenomenon that indicates it is much older. The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the most important theoretical approaches to the issue of racism, from the first theories of the thirties of the 20th century, despite attempts to define the terms "race" and "racism" in the UN, to debate in the post-colonial studies. At the same time course aims to give a basic overview of the history of racism from the so-called phase protorasismu to the present. Emphasis is placed primarily upon the work with primary texts and the ability to understand the wider historic context that influenced the shaping of "modern" form of racism.
Student is acquitanced with the most important theoretical approaches to the issue of racism.
Prerequisites
Ability to work with specialized texts, including english texts.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

Requirements for the colloquium: Active participation in seminars, assigned reading texts and preparing for seminars, successful verification of knowledge of topics discussed in the debate over the week before the colloquium seminar handed works (at least 5 standard pages previously consulted on the subject).
