Course content

1. What is queer? - Attempt(s) on the conceptualization of sex, gender and desire. The term queer in historical perspective. Identity / personality. Performativita and fluidity of identity / personality as a post-modern category. 2. Identity in discourse - sex, gender and sexuality in the discourse (especially media discourse). Esencialistic theory vs. media representation. theory of social construction of reality. Identity Politics. Discursive practices related to identity: exnomintion, tabuisation, positioning. 3. Queer discourses and mainstream - Queer lifestyles as an alternative culture / subculture. Gay and lesbian lifestyles. Queer discourses as popculture source. Pomosexuality. Androgynita, genderqueer. Metrosexualita, questionable. 4. Am I / is (something) queer? - Personal narrative as relevant sources of postmodern identities. Talk about what about us and / or we can be considered queer. 5. Queer in the media - Queer theme in media: synchronic and diachronic perspective. Queer Cinema. 6. The body as object of desire - Ways sexualisation of body in contemporary visual culture. View as a source of pleasure and the concept of gaze. 7.-8. Queer Media Studies I - Analysis of various types of media, from queer perspectives: photography and lifestyle magazines. 9.-10. Queer Media Studies II - Analysis of various types of media, from queer perspectives: TV, movies, music videos. 11. Queer as lifestyle (constant) search for alternatives - Queer Desk media texts as an example of decoding the opposition. Fanfiction as output? New queer reality?. Alternative queer media. 12. I am now (more) queer? - The final group discussion of queer theory and queer experience.

The course is focused on the theme chosen Queer Theory. After presenting the basic prerequisites for the understanding of sex, gender and sexuality as separate and culture central categories will focus on their function in discourse, particularly the media. The term queer, which focuses on comprehensive sex-genderovo-sex inakosť and is widely viewed as a summary of alternatives dominantních (mainstream) identity, offering the opportunity to observe the ways in which popular culture is treated with sex, gender and sexuality.
Student is acquitanced with the contemporary themes in queer theory. Student is able to apply the theories and anallyticaly interpret particular phenomens.

Essay
Requirements for credit: Requires (and control) are currently preparing for each seminar. Your mission is to advance (ie before the workshop) is familiar with the required resources and be properly prepared to participate in the discussion of the topic raised. Later in the week of midterm upload 5-page essay with arbitrary, pre-approved topic, which concerns the relationship of identity queer / queer lifestyle and popculture. Parameters text: Lining - 1.5; font - Times, 12 points. You are allowed up to two (2) absence. If this number is exceeded, we will proceed further according to individual agreements (eg development seminar work). Interest on compensation absences must prove yourself, at least in the midterm week.
