Course content
1. November 1989 event, the emergence of OF and VPN, and the emergence of new or renewal of previously existing parties, the constitution of democracy, elections 1990th 2. Crystallization of political parties since the elections in 1990, disintegration and the emergence of OF successor political parties. Relations between the CR and SR. 3. Analysis election in 1992. Pillars of the right-wing policies, the division of Czechoslovakia. 4. Transformation of Czech society 1992-1996. Development of party system in this period. 5. Analysis of the 1996 elections, the fall of a minority government, program differences left and right. 6. The political situation in 1997, the fall of the coalition government and a new cabinet. Situation before the elections in 1998. The way of forming a government in 1998, the so-called opposition agreement and so-called tolerance patent. Analysis of current political events. 7. Elections to the Lower Chamber of the Czech parliament in 2002. Interpretation of results, forming a government. 8. Referendum on accession to the EU. Europeanisation of the political parties. Elections to Parliament in 2004. 9. Development of the party system between 2002-2006. Analysis of Senate elections in 2006. 10. Legislative and the political system of the CR. The legislative process in the CR. 11. Municipal and regional elections in the CR. 12. Application of selected theories on the development of the party system of CR.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to thematize the political system of the Czech Republic with regard to the needs of future political journalists. Students will learn about the basic laws (Constitution, election laws, law on political parties, etc.), mechanisms of elections, history of political parties and movements, election results, party programmes, etc. The party system and the main stages of its development are also characterised. The lectures also focus on municipal and regional politics, its main actors, election results, regional stratification of support for political parties and the application of selected theories to the party system of the country. The topics are related to contemporary political events.
Increasing the orientation of students in political issues of the Czech Republic.
Prerequisites
There are no special requirements for attending this course.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Seminar Work

Condition for completion of the course is given in seminar work in the range of 5-8 pages. Students must also pass a final test. Test: skills and knowledge according to the lectures.
