Course content
1. Speech / language / communication and its study in various disciplines: logic, linguistics, philosophy of language, information theory, common problems: character, its function and production. 2. Main initiatives: Peirce (sémeiotika), de Saussure (semiology), Morris (theory of signs), Barthes (syntagmatic a paradigmatic theory of communication); Lotman (secondary systems theory), Derrida (grammatology), Eco (Theory of Semiotics). APPLICATIONS: See 5,6,7,8. 3. Signs, types of signs, signh activities, sign production, sign code, a character re-presentation and presentation, a system of sign communication. 4. Media and sighn: the type of media and type of sign, features and functions of the media signs, media and perception, media and abstraction, media, space and time. APPLICATIONS: See 9,10 5. Peirce´s theory of interpretans in sign codes, Morris´s theory syntactic, semantic and pragmatic signs of bases of sign production. 6. de Saussure and structuralist difference in sign production; Barthes´s paradigmatic and syntagmatic sign production. 7. Lotman´s theory of secondary systems and non/paradigmatic culture; Derridova´s gramatology and deconstruction. 8. Semiotic synthesis (Eco) and gramatologic revision (Derrida) - their importance for the study of communication and culture. 9. Image, concept, technical image: Flusser´S theory of media adapters facts and Castells´s network metacode revising some basic theory of semiotics. 10. Speed, acceleration, inertia: Virilio´s theory of dromocratic communication and Castells´s network metacode revising some basic of theory of semiotics. 11. Revision of problems and their solutions in 5,6,7,8 by 9,10. NEW APPLICATIONS. 12. Basic circuit of current problems semiotic media.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the main sets of problems whose formulation and solution led to the establishment of semiotics. The aim of this course is systematically interpret the basic issues relevant to semiotics to work with the media and the media. Using evidence to demonstrate the selected practical examples.
Student is acquitanced with the basic terms, concepts and topics of semiotics.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of basic concepts of semiotics.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

Requirements for the colloquium: Active participation in seminars, assigned reading texts and preparing for seminars, success in verification of knowledge of topics discussed in the debate over the week before the colloquium seminar handed works (at least 5 standard pages previously consulted on the subject).
