Course content
1. Introduction to, an overview of basic concepts 2. Relation of media institutions - political institutions function of media in society 3. Politics and the Media: an Overview of media theories and research approaches 4. The dialectic of the relationship media - politics 5. Impact of media concentration and pluralism in the political discourse 6. Control / ownership of media distortions and political discourse 7. Ideology, hegemony 8. Media and public / public opinion, media and elections 9. Media and political socialization and participation in contemporary society 10. "Rhetoric" - the convergence / divergence of media and political discourse 11. New media, globalization of media and political discourse 12. Relationship between media and politics in the Czech republic.

Learning activities and teaching methods

Learning outcomes
The aim of discipline is to give attention to bindings of media and political discourse, and also highlight the wider political context of the operation of media institutions and the nature of media production.
Students will acquire skills of the course according to sylabus.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of functioning of the media and politics.

Assessment methods and criteria
Dialog

Active participation on seminars, cooperation on collectively realised research, final report writting, final knowledge test.
