Course content
|
1. What is qualitative research. Qualitative thinking. 2. Areas of qualitative media research: organizations, contents, audiences. Research process - sample, flexibility, reflexivity, data collection, coding, interpretation. 3. Analytical approaches (grounded theory, ethnography, interest-research) and ethics of qualitative research. 4. Research methods: discourse and MC analysis, qualitative content analysis, in-depth and group interveiws, focus groups etc. 5. Conception of own research - topic, aims, decision on methodology. 6. Research instrument conception 7. Pre-test and its evaluation. Presentation of research aims and metodology. 8. Data collection. 9. Analysis and data processing: transcription, descriptive process, coding. 10. Analysis and data processing: interpretation. 11.-12. Work on own project: analysis, interpretation and preparation of the report. 13. Presentation and reflexion of own research and findings.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course is to introduce students with basic approaches within qualitative research. Main part of the course is to realise own (in groups) research project from its begenning to the very end applying the acquired methodological and analytical knowledge.
Students will acquire skills according to the course sylabus - methodological text reading, conception and realization of own research project, group work, presentation of own research and analysis. Course is profoundly practically oriented

Prerequisites

The prerequisite is the successful passing of introductory lectures to media research methods.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Systematic Observation of Student, Seminar Work
Requirements for students: Preparation for each seminar, the basic theoretical knowledge of specific subjects. Credit: - 75 % aktivní účast na seminářích. - Sharing on a research Exam: knowledge of qualitative methodology.
