Course content
In the spring term of 2025, classes will be held in block sessions on selected Fridays from 9:45 AM to 2:45 PM. The first meeting will take place on February 21, 2025, during which we will agree on the remaining dates (these will likely be: February 21, March 21, April 4, and April 25, 2025). Course Outline (4 Blocks): BLOCK 1: FOUNDATIONS OF INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION Interpersonal perception: self-understanding vs. understanding others. Mechanisms of perceiving others and perceptual errors. Active listening: principles and practice in modeled situations. BLOCK 2: FOUNDATIONS OF VERBAL AND NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION Nonverbal communication: recognizing and interpreting body language. Verbal communication: persuasion and techniques for developing verbal agility. Practical exercises to enhance verbal and nonverbal communication skills. BLOCK 3: PRINCIPLES OF GROUP INTERACTION Social interaction: techniques for fostering collaboration and group dynamics. Effective argumentation in group settings. BLOCK 4: FOUNDATIONS OF PRESENTATION SKILLS Basics of creating and structuring a successful presentation. Techniques for persuasive delivery and effective communication with an audience. Practical exercises: preparation and delivery of an oral presentation.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to key concepts in communication theory, provide an understanding of the processes underlying interpersonal communication, including its determinants and dynamics, and analyze the principles of effective communication, encompassing both verbal and nonverbal components. Additionally, the course will explore the principles of group interaction. On a practical level, the course offers opportunities to become familiar with basic techniques of active listening, giving feedback, group work, and foundational presentation skills. Given the limited number of hours, the course will primarily focus on an introduction to the possibilities for developing communication skills.
Students will acquire skills of the course according to sylabus.
Prerequisites
1. To increase the student?s ability to improve and utilize the skills necessary to be a competent interpersonal communicator. 2. To increase the student?s understanding of his or her own communication behavior. 3. To increase the student?s understanding of others communication behaviors. 4. To improve the student?s communication skills in both social and professional contexts. 5. To improve the student?s ability to demonstrate effective conflict resolution skills.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Seminar Work

Conditions for Obtaining Credit: Personal attendance at the seminars. Completion of homework assignments, which will be given before each session. The time spent on these preparations will allow for further development of the topics during in-person sessions. Willingness to participate in class activities and engage in the offered group tasks. The course is primarily designed for students who wish to be actively involved. Fulfillment of partial tasks during in-person sessions. COLLOQUIUM Preparation of a final oral presentation on a selected topic and its delivery to other course participants. The conditions for preparation will be announced at the beginning of the semester in Moodle.
