Course content
1. What is gender? - Attempt on the conceptualization of sex, gender and desire and their relationships. The concept of gender in historical perspective: essential and constructivist theory of gender. Postmodern understanding gender identity / personality as performative and fluid concepts. 2. There is a "right gender"? - Masculinity and femininity: the "naturalness" femininity and masculinity woman man. "Regularities" operation of gender, sexuality and gender in the discourse (especially the media). 3. Gender equity as: track and hold - view as a source of pleasure, the concept of gaze. When sex becomes "law": Porn (graphite), rape as politics. 4. Pornografization of the culture? Pornografization of the sex? - Porn in popular culture: see whether the model of sex? Pornografization of the visual culture. 5., 6.Media consumption "masculine" and "feminine" genre? - Diachronic and synchronous gauge and television production from the perspective of gender. Analysis of selected TV series and music videos. 7., 8. Adams and Eves about Eves and Adams: gender by lifestyle magazines. Analysis gender differentiated lifestyle magazines. 9. How to sell men and how to sell women: gender and advertising Analysis gender contingent advertising messages. 10. What (the hell) are (those) perfect bodies? - Western and non-western historical and contemporary ideas about idealization of the human body. Representing "ideal" body in contemporary visual culture. Anorexia, bulimia. 11. Queer: those who are "weird" - The term queer. Outline the basic postulates queer theory. Sexuality as an identity. 12. Gender - the most personal and the most political I have ever had. Final group discussion on the status of gender in the lives of individuals and culture in general.

Learning outcomes
Conceptualization of sex, gender and sexuality in the current gender studies serve as background conceptual universe for the operation of gender analysis in the current Western culture. Particular attention will focus on the analysis of selected media / texts, particularly those significantly gender differentiated.
Students will be able to analyse text from the gender point of view.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of basic sociological terms and concepts.

Assessment methods and criteria
Essay

1) Successfully completing all oral and written exercises and assignments as directed; 2) Essay on a selected topic. 4-5 pages type-written, 3) regular attendance in the class(2 absences are permitted).
