Learning outcomes
The Fan studies course is focused on specific perception of media content typical for fans. Fan studies are developing research area nowadays, however, it is not so widespread in Czech Republic. The main aim of this course is thus establish fan studies as an independent field of study. The course introduces this field and points out its uniqueness and encourages new ways of research. A certain continuity of the subject of audience studies is evident. The course introduces fans as unique media audience and points out the fan position in the relationship with the producers of a media contents. Further the course focuses on the creative work of fans (e.g. fan fiction). It is clear that the main purpose of this course is to provide a great scale of information from the fan studies field which is tightly linked with the cultural studies. The aim is also to teach students how to think critically in the context of this subject and how to use acquired skills in the further studies.
