Czech specifics. Important feminist authors. 3. FROM FEMINIST MOVEMENT TO GENDER STUDIES: 3rd Wave of Feminism. Popularizing of feminist theories. Feminist movement. Concept of Gender and Gender Studies. 4. WORK ON SEMINAR PAPER: Research on literature and paper topics. 5. WOMAN AND/IN LANGUAGE: The gendered language and criticism of discrimination in language. Women and/in literature. 6. PSYCHOLOGY OF WOMEN: Freud and women. Woman as a topic in psychology. Female psychologists. Motherhood. Theories of gender socialization. 7. GENDER AND/IN EDUCATION: School as gendered (masculine) organization. 8. SOCIOLOGY OF WOMAN: Women in the work of sociological classics. Gender contract. Learning outcomes
|
The course acquaints students with the feminist critique of culture and media. Based on the ideas of the second and third wave feminism, gender theory and current work of the authors of the liberal, radical and socialist thought feministiského his post-feministiské offshoots. Introductory part of the course aims to make students understand the bases of feminist thinking and social situation / status of women in the past two centuries. The aim of this course is to acquaint students with not only the position of women theorists, but also increase their sensitivity to gender issues in our everyday life, public space and media program content. The course wants to convey a wide range of interdisciplinary reflections on culture, media and gender (analysis of the representation of women in the media, stereotyping, feminist criticism of the genre, feminist rekonceptualizaci consumerism, gender aspects of the subculture, the tradition of feminist linguistic study of language and literary criticism, feminist film studies) . The course provides an overview of feminist traditions of thought and closer focus on selected concepts, authors and texts. The course will be used to illustrate the relevant film materials discussed topic.
Absolvents of the course will be able to: - critically evaluate the existing literature; - analyse media messages from the gender point of view; - reflect from various pluralistic perspectives acquired knowledge on cultural diversity; - work with the topic of gender in its interdisciplinary and intersectional aspects.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written exam, Seminar Work
Prerequisite for the successful completion of the course is required reading literature, ongoing training seminars during the semester and active participation in discussions about assigned texts. The course leads students to an active critical reading of texts, their analysis, interpretation and application to everyday situations. Literature for the course is chosen to be widely available and students can usually get it in the library, foreign texts will be provided to teachers to students. The course culminates in a colloquium. Conditions completion of the course will be specified at the beginning of the semester.
