Course content
Public, scheduled ahead. 3 member committee: supervisor + opponent + chairman The time of each defense is scheduled for 20 minutes Presentation 8 minutes REVIEWS (a) Opponent 5 minutes (b) Supervisor 5 minutes QUESTION TIME opponent + supervisor + comittee 2 minutes DETAILS OF THE PROCEDURE 1. PRESENTATION (candidate) The candidates present the thesis. During the presentation the candidates state/ define clearly the research topic, explain methodology and demonstrate the results of their study. If useful, they can integrate also the questions/ problems mentioned in the supervisor´s review. 2. A) OPPONENT´S REVIEW + QUESTIONS + ANSWERS The opponents summarize their review - pointing out positives and negatives. They ask some explicit questions, which the candidate can be expected to answer. The candidate answers the questions. B) SUPERVISOR´S REVIEW + QUESTIONS + ANSWERS The supervisors summarize their review - pointing out positives and negatives. They ask some explicit questions, which the candidate can be expected to answer. They can also refer to the level/ quality of co-operation/ interaction with the candidate. The candidate answers the questions. 3. QUESTIONS TIME The candidate answers questions of (in the given order) (a) the opponent / the supervisor, (c) other members of the committee / audience.

Learning outcomes
The thesis defense is a comprehensive verification of the ability to elaborate in written work on a given topic in a systematic and independent way, and to apply knowledge and skills acquired in the given field of study.
Successful completion of the defense is assumed to prove that students are able to work independently on a proposed topic and to express his/her ideas in a limited space, in a required form and in a clear manner.

There are no specific requirements concerning how to make the presentation (PowerPoint, etc.). However, it is your own responsibility to prepare for the oral presentation as well as for the questions from the supervisor, oponent and the comittee. You are expected to answer all the questions.
