Course content
1. content analysis? theory and method: defining research methods, theoretical foundations of content analysis 2. data structure and coding book? creation of data structures, defining categories monitored (relevance, thematic structure, database operators, etc.) 3. researched selection of media texts? relevant sample selection for comparative quantitative research Czech national television news television 4. coding and dials? start coding, filling data structures and coding books 5. coding and assembly of data? completion of coding, validity and reliability of data, control data 6. interpretation of the data? create the structure of the final output, making presentation and interpretation of results 7. final report and presentation of research results 8. final test

Learning outcomes
After the necessary theoretical determination method of content analysis, the course aims to create virtually comparative analysis of television news. Analytical seminar will follow-up steps, which correspond to the themes of each seminar meeting, proceed to the actual presentation of the obtained results, interpretation of data and technical, graphical and textual processing analysis. The subject content analysis of the quantitative comparison of specific publicized events, and media texts will be studied news reports of three Czech national television stations? public television and its CT Events, TV News TV Nova and Prima TV News. Students will have the opportunity from a certain perspective, consider the differences in commercial and public news and background theoretical knowledge from other courses of the study program to interpret the data and possibly later created a method to apply to media texts examined in this thesis.
To apply qualitative, quantitative and comparative research methodology and empirical data collection techniques in communication and media research.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

Credit: Active participation of students in quantitative research. Timely performance of assigned tasks. Cooperation in the development of methodology, defining key terms of research, quality and accurate coding of analyzed media texts. Demonstration of theoretical and methodological knowledge collected through written test. Participation in seminars (75%). colloquium: Submission of research papers in Word or PowerPoint, personal presentation and defense of the research.
