Course content
Conceptualisation of audince, analyzis of different target groups of public. Study of key concepts of audience and analysis of fundamental researchers. 1) Introduction into the spectator studies, the definition of key terms. 2) Text analysis Lazarsfeld PF, Berelson , B., Gaudet, H.: The People 's Choice: How the Voter Makes Up His Mind in a Presidential Campaign. 3) Film Man with the Golden Arm ( Otto Preminger , USA 1955) 4) Text analysis Winick Ch Tendency Systems and the Effects of a Movie Dealing With a Social Problem. 5) Tect analysi: Adorno, TW : Culture Industry Reconsidered. 6) Text analysis Newson, E.: Video Violence and the Protection of Children. 7) Text analysis Barker, M.: The Newson Report: A Case Study In " Common Sense". 8) Text analysis Fiske , J.: Understanding Popular Culture. 9) Screening of selected audiovisual work, its joint analysis (discussion topic : limits polysemic nature of the text, options subverzního reading)Gender, fan culture and interpretive communities 10) Analysis of the text Ang, I.: Living Room Wars: Rethinking Audiences for a Postmodern World. 11) Analysis of the text Jenkins III, H.: Star Trek Rerun, Reread, rewritten: Fan Writing as Textual Poaching.

Learning outcomes
In the seminar, students can learn to learn the conceptualisation of audience within studies of reception. Focus is lay on conceptualization of the role of the viewer in relation to cultural texts and their producers. Variable methodological approaches are examined for analysis of media audiences. In the seminar students learn to analyze public as a goal group of media organization.
Students will: - learn to analyze specific audience groups as recipients of media messages, - learn to analyze and critically reflect academic texts that introduce audience research studies, - learn to analyze and critically reflect massmedial text that deal with audience and public research, - acquire knowledge on possible research methodst and their application, - individually will create expert presenation on relevant topic, will present and discuss it with other students.
Prerequisites
Ability to interpret scientific text in English.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Analysis of key texts, knowledge of key concepts of audience, presentation of research proposal and active participation in seminar lessons.
