Course content |
The course provides an introduction to the topic of museology, the goal is to present it as a science dealing with the phenomenon of musealization and museum culture. It shows the historical manifestations of museum phenomenon and the development of museum institutions, while also dealing with the issue of collecting and the motivation for collecting activities. Besides the definition of museums and related concepts, it also deals with typologies of museums, museum pieces and the nature of museality. The aim is to present students with the theories of selection, thesauration and presentations, all with a focus on the educational sense of museums. In addition to current problems (digitization, active selection, etc.) it also deals with the role of the museum educator in the process of musealization and current trends in museum culture. After completing the course, students should be able to define the cognitive domain of museology and understand contemporary museum in a broader historical context. |

Dialog, Seminar Work
Seminar paper on the history and present of a specifically chosen museum (student?s choice, such as one located in their place of residence), history of its educational activities, as well as the current educational strategies of the museum.
