Course content
|
The course deals with the basic issues and concepts related to folk culture: ethnology in relation to social and cultural anthropology, ethnography, folklore studies, folklorism and folklore. Definition of the rural environment, traditional environment, vernacular architecture, types of settlements, as well as presenting folk art, folk costumes, folk music and dance, and ethnomusicology. In light of the the number of regional ethnographically focused museums, proper attention will also be given to dialectology, literary folklore, annual traditions, games and current returning to one?s roots. Basic topics: Ethnology in relation to social and cultural anthropology Ethnography, ethnology, folklore studies, folklorism and folklore Rural environment Vernacular architecture Types of settlements Visual Folk Art Folk costumes, music and dance, ethnomusicology Dialects, literary folklore, annual customs, games Return to the roots

Learning outcomes
|
After completing the course, students should be able to: - Describe the basic forms of folk culture - Use terms related to folk culture - Clarify the interdisciplinary relations on the theme of folk culture - Define the traditional rural setting, folk architecture, types of settlements - Discuss the topic of the social need for traditions
After completing the course, students should be able to create own programms about folk culture.

Basic knowledge of issues, interest in the field.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Dialog, Seminar Work
Participation in lectures. Credit work in the range of 5 pages devoted to selected phenomena of the folk culture.
