Course content |
Topics: Antiquity and its contribution to the present. Middle Ages and Christianity. Renaissance and Reformation. Enlightenment, the emergence of the USA and the French Revolution. Nation states and national identity in the 19th century. European colonialism. World War I and World War II. Totalitarian regimes in the 20th century. The Cold War in Europe and the collapse of the Soviet bloc after 1989."

Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to acquaint students - future teachers of citizenship education and social science basics - with selected key periods of world history with a focus on their connection with the contemporary society and culture in relation to educational practice at primary and secondary schools. At the end of the course students should be able to: "to clarify the contribution of key stages of world history in shaping the current shape of society, "to characterize the most important milestones in world history, "to assess the role of individual historical periods in world history, "analyze and evaluate the impact of historical events on the current world.
