Course content |
Topics: Diversity and development of cultural expressions in the past and present. Significant cultural epochs in the history of mankind from its beginnings to the present. Cultural values, traditions and institutions. Specifics of the cultural development of the Czech lands. Mass culture. Culture - material and spiritual, overview of artistic styles. Familiarization with forms and methods of work with pupils in the field of cultural history within the basics of social sciences and citizenship education. Use of extracurricular forms - competitions, projects, excursions, visits to cultural facilities. Using non-traditional methods in teaching cultural history. Means of mass communication. Role and position of media in contemporary society.

Learning outcomes |
The aim of the course is to acquaint students - future teachers of citizenship education and social science basics - with selected topics and issues of world and Czech culture, its development, current institutional background and manifestations. Students will gain the fundamentals for understanding the development of culture and civilization in the past and in the contemporary transformations. Considerable attention will be paid to insight into media issues, their position and functioning in society and their control in terms of political and ideological intentions. At the end of the course students should be able to: "think and define the concept of culture, "identify the nature of cultural expressions in selected contexts, "explain the underlying global causes of cultural and lifestyle changes, "characterize selected personalities of world and Czech culture and assess their importance, "analyze and evaluate selected cultural aspects of the development of the world, Europe and the Czech lands, "describe and evaluate the role of the media in contemporary society.
Understanding the development of Czech, European and world culture and interpreting the changes that accompanied it during its development. |
