Course content |
Topics: Czech state and nation in medieval Europe. The Czech Lands as a Part of the Habsburg Monarchy. The formation of the Czech national identity in the process of creating European nations in the 19th century. Czechoslovakia in the period between World War I and World War II. Nazi occupation of the Czech lands and its consequences. Czechoslovakia as a part of the Soviet power block after World War II. The Czech national and state community in the EU and the globalized world at the beginning of the 21st century."

"The aim of the course is to acquaint students - future teachers of citizenship education and social science basics - with the process of creating the modern Czech nation especially in the 19th and 20th centuries and with the relationship of Czech national identity to the global context. At the end of the course students should be able to: ""to clarify the basic terminology related to globalization and national identity, ""to characterize the most important milestones of Czech national history in the 19th and 20th centuries and their links to European and world development, ""describe the influence of selected historical and contemporary personalities on the attitudes of the Czech national community towards global development, ""analyze and evaluate the impact of current globalization processes on Czech society and identity."
