Course content
Topics: Empiricism and rationalism and its representatives. The philosophy of the Enlightenment. German philosophy: Kant Fichte, Schelling, Hegel. Positivism, materialism and Marxism. Schopenhauer, Kierkegaard and Nietzsche. The main philosophical movements of the 20th century: pragmatism, Christian personalism, phenomenology, philosophy of existence, the question of being according by M. Heidegger. Analytical philosophy. Critical rationalism. Novotomism, hermeneutics, postmodernism.

Learning outcomes
Students will be acquainted with the basic topics and personalities who significantly contributed to the development of philosophical thinking of the 19th, 20th and early 21st centuries. Students will be also taught to understand the main problems and the possibilities of how to solve them.
After finishing the course students should be able to: - to prove their knowledge and basic orientation in modern philosophy - to explain basic philosophical terms used in individual philosophical systems - to characterize and analyse individual philosophical movements - to explain the importance of individual philosophical thinkers for the development of European and world thinking.

The course has no study prerequisites.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Study of distance supports, participation in consultations, self-study - preparation for credit, passing the final test.
