Course content
Definition of basic concepts of spiritual theology. Introduction to the main spiritual themes. Anthropology, sin, grace, nature. Theological virtues. The laws and stages of spiritual development, models of the spiritual journey in the history of Christian spirituality. Christian maturity. Prayer - basic forms and development of prayer, lectio divina, Christian and non-Christian meditation. Christian asceticism and its meaning, misconceptions of asceticism and false ideas about God. Spiritual discernment, the meaning of temptation, passion and vice. Natural virtues. The vocation to holiness and personal vocation. Means of spiritual life, obstacles on the spiritual path.

Learning outcomes
The course aims to introduce students to the spiritual life, assumes faith and religious experience or at least a serious interest in spirituality, and is recommended especially for those who wish to deepen their Christian experience. The student will be able to DEFINE the basic concepts of Christian spirituality, DESCRIBE the most important types of religious experience, and DISCUSS major spiritual topics. The student will be able to INTERPRET the spiritual experience of major figures in the Christian tradition, DISTINGUISH authentic Christian spirituality, and EVALUATE the choice of resources for the spiritual life.
Students will be able to transfer the acquired theoretical knowledge of theological and spiritual topics to their personal spiritual life.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have faith or at least an interest and sensitivity to topics related to spirituality and Christian faith. Religious Experience.
