Course content
- The concept of "paradox", experience with paradoxes, characteristics and methodological approach - Ancient paradoxes, why they are still challenges for thinking today - Paradoxes related to freedom - Paradoxes of communication - Paradoxes as challenges to the foundations of scientific thinking, the phenomenon of self-reference - Paradoxes of self-understanding and self-development - Paradoxes in different areas of life (history, political science, law, psychology, art). - Paradoxes and crises - Paradoxes in the field of spirituality

Learning outcomes
- Introduce paradoxes as phenomena pointing to the limits of rationality. - To show the connection of paradoxes as historical and linguistic phenomena with situations in our lives. - To show the connection of paradoxes with communication and crises. - To provide a more comprehensive approach to complex situations.
Upon completion of the course, the graduate is able to: - understand the problem of paradoxes and self-reference, its correlation with language, logic and rationality, - explain the importance of paradoxes for contemporary society and apply the knowledge in their lives, - understand the role of paradoxes in communication, - critically evaluate the literature on the subject.
Prerequisites
The student organizes his/her studies based on the study materials and instructions in the LMS; he/she participates in the announced tutorials and completes continuous short tests (approximately 4).

Assessment methods and criteria

In order to receive credit, the student must successfully complete the interim tests and write a short written paper. The topic of the written work will be agreed upon by the student and the instructor. The student should show that he/she has understood the topic of paradoxes and can similarly see new phenomena, especially in the field of crisis communication and communication in general, from their perspective.
