Course content
Plan of the topics according to the weeks: 1. Political and administrative constitution of Ukrainian state. 2. Geographical and economic profile of Ukraine. 3. State and national symbols. 4. Basic information about most recent history of Ukraine. 5. History of Ukrainian currency equivalents and the treasure of Cossacks. 6. The legendary origin of Kiev. 7. Kievan Rus: its rise and fall. 8. Zaporozhian Sich. 9. Ukraine as a part of Austrian and Russian empire. 10. Civil war and the origin of ZUNR 11. New economic policy and the origin of USSR. 12. Industrialization and collectivization. 13. Credit session.

Learning outcomes
In this introductory course on Ukrainian realia the students are presented with knowledge of development and present status of Ukrainian nation, Ukrainian mentality, tradition, culture and language as well as with history of national symbols of Ukrainians. Special attention is paid to the most important events of the contemporary political scene and international relations. Students will also get familiar with the constitution of Ukraine and its political and administrative organization, geological facts and economic development. Some time shall also be dedicated to history and origin of national customs. We shall deal with a system of textual exercises which help not only to acquire the knowledge, but also to improve the communicative competence and to broaden the vocabulary.
Students will get familiar with legendary as well as actual facts about the milestones of Ukrainian history, political event s and Ukrainian symbols.

The course is designed for beginners.

Oral exam, Written exam, Written exam

Preparedness for each lesson, making a presentation on a given topic, answering questions regarding the topic of Ukrainian realia.
