Learning outcomes
This course builds on the previous series of lectures and introduces students to 20th-century Ukrainian literature. The literary landscape at that time was complex. Ukraine became part of the Soviet Union, and culture and the arts faced certain restrictions, repression, and oppression. However, this era of chaos and moral upheaval was also a time of unleashed creative energy (Vasyl Stefanyk, O. Honchar, P. Zahrebelny, Y. Klen, and others). The focus is primarily on the generation of the 1960s and prominent movements such as Expressionism and Impressionism, as well as writers such as M. Kotsyubynsky, I. Drach, and V. Stus. The conclusion of the seminar is devoted to a comprehensive review in preparation for the state bachelor's exam.
Students will learn about Ukrainian modernism and socialist realism, their characteristics, and their most prominent figures; they will learn to interpret prose and poetry; and they will become acquainted with some contemporary Ukrainian writers.
