Course content
01. History and development of mass media. 02. Sources of Ukrainian mass media in Europe and elsewhere. 03. - 05. Discussion about politics, culture (theatre, cinema, literature, visual arts, folk crafts, music etc.) based on internet sources. 06.-09. Discussion of economy (banking, market economy, price policy), sport and international relations based on the information presented in newspapers and journals. 10.- 12. Discussion about the used sources of information. 13. Credit session.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to present the students with the language of journalistic style in Ukrainian mass media. At the same time, students can obtain topical information about current political, cultural and economy events in Ukraine. We shall deal with internet sources as well as with TV programmes, radio, newspapers and journals. Students have to prepare a presentation in which they will present the class with brief information on a selected topic according to the type of mass media they will choose. In the class we shall discuss in Ukrainian and evaluate the presentations, exercise the vocabulary and the ability to translate. Students will also broaden their knowledge of present-day Ukraine.
An ability to listen with comprehension, knowledge of topical news from mass media, comparison of Slavonic languages by way of listening, an ability to reproduce audio-texts.
Prerequisites
Completing the course UM1, at least lower intermediate knowledge of Ukrainian language.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written exam

Preparedness of each lesson, short presentation, submitting the in-class assigned tasks, in-class presentation, final presentation and passing the examination test. Completing the course Ukrainian Language in Mass Media 1.
