Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this seminar is to broaden the knowledge gained during the previous course Text Interpretation 1 and to develop an ability to apply the theoretical knowledge. We shall pay attention to the individual styles of Ukrainian language, their features and classification. We shall discuss the selection of words with respect to a target audience and how to prepare presentations from different sources and texts. We shall deal with texts from politics, economy, medicine and mass media.
Students will learn how to differentiate text according to adequate styles, how to select appropriate words, interpunction, phrases and idioms and to apply artistic means in text. Students will try to translate poetry and prose according to their individual aptitudes and taste.

Prerequisites
|
A good knowledge of general and specialized translation methods, complex constructions and syntactical structures. An experience with translation of various texts.
