| Course content |
|
1.-3. weeks we shall deal with texts from special economical books ? the problematic of investment, financial security of a family, loans and mortgages. 4.-6. weeks we shall deal with legal topics ? with simple texts concerning civil law. We shall also translate several legal documents. 7.-9. weeks we shall deal with tourism and with texts about history of tourism and its development, service and destinations in Ukraine. 10.-12. weeks we shall translate texts concerning healthcare, hospitals, illnesses and health conditions, terminology from hospital environment and text on folk medicine and herbs. 13. Credit session.

| Learning outcomes |

This course is focused on exercising the basic translation methods (compensation, amplification, deletion) on concrete texts of various functional styles (mainly journalistic and scientific). We shall apply various stages of equivalence and focus on translation of terminology and specific phrases. Attention shall also be paid to word order in the terminological phrases. We shall also stress the importance of extralinguistic factors, which is one of the basic features of functional approach to communication in theory and practice alike. The translatological methods are applied to the texts concerning the topic of economy, law, tourism and healthcare. Students will gradually acquire the necessary vocabulary and terminology. The basic topic is divided into sub-topics such as: general questions of economy, bansk, finance, internal and international trade.
Students will learn how to translate accurately a more complex text from Ukrainian into Czech, how to analyse special texts and look for adequate terms in their mother tongue and how to find the gist of information, dissect the text and produce an adequate translation. |

Basic knowledge of translatolgical methods for translating complex sentences, phrases and terminology. Experience with translation of various texts.
