Course content
Series of lectures on overarching topics: Contemporary Methodologies in Literary Studies Analysis of major theoretical currents (structuralism, poststructuralism, narratology, gender studies, postcolonial theory). Emphasis on their practical application in text interpretation. Literature and Cultural Memory Examination of the relationship between literary works, collective memory, and identity. Narratives of memory, trauma, and representations of the past in contemporary literature. Literature in the Context of Central and Eastern Europe Regional characteristics, cultural and historical contexts, and the relationship between literature and political and social changes. Connections to the Slavic studies field and current research trends.

Learning outcomes
The Literary Studies Seminar is designed as an advanced specialized course focused on gaining a deeper understanding of contemporary methodological approaches in literary studies. Students work with primary and secondary texts, analyze literary works within broader cultural, historical, and theoretical contexts, and develop their ability to interpret texts critically. Emphasis is placed on independent work, discussion of scholarly texts, the application of theoretical concepts, and the production of original analytical outputs. The seminar supports the development of scholarly argumentation, academic writing, and the ability to present the results of literary research.
Basic understanding of the subject, knowledge of key works and relevant topics.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have at least a B2 language level of Ukrainian.
